Welcome, dear reader, to the new year! With the bad memory of 2020 fading quickly from our minds, we look towards the future with bright eyes and minds. It has been a little over a week since the nightmare year of 2020 ended, and already 2021 is proving to be a formidable adversary when it comes to breaking news; I speak of course of the insurrection at the US Capital. As news broke, spectators worldwide hung their heads at the acts of sedition, collectively marking January 6th 2021 as the day -as many legislators on both sides put it- an “unprecedented assault” was carried out against american democracy. Now, dear reader, as this site trives to remain neutral in its reporting and it’s articles, I will strive to remain neutral. As the insurrection at the capital occurred 6 days ago, several news sites have had the opportunity to report on the matter. Here, dear reader, is a compiled report of what we so far know:
On the Sixth of January, 2021, Supporters of Donald trump arrived in washington to attend a rally for donald trump aptly titled “save america”. At said rally, Donald trump and other members of his inner circle spoke their opinions on the election certification currently in session. Among other things said, many keynote speakers such as Donald Trump junior and Trump's Personal attorney, Rudi Guiallany stated that those in attendance should “fight to save democracy”. It is believed that from these speeches an insight to riot was born, at it was shortly after the conclusion of the rally that thousands of people caring Trump flags and chanting the familiar slogans of “f**ck antifa” and “stop the steal” made their way to the capitol steps.
The insurrectionists pushed their way through 4 walls of security before
finally reaching the steps to the capital, where they then began to work their way towards the doors of the capital, scaling walls and scaffolding built for the upcoming inauguration of now confirmed president-elect Biden. In defence and in an attempt to stop the advancing mob, capital police fired tear gas into the crowds and barricaded doors, but to little avail. Shortly after insurrectionists reached the doors to the capital, they were able to breach the barricades, making their way into the central rotunda as well as offices belonging to members of the house. Insurrectionists began to make their way through the halls of the capital, their chanting echoing through the halls, now not only claiming the election was false but also calling for notable democratic speakers like Nancy Pelosi to “come out”. Along with this, members of the crowd that were able to enter the capital began to commit what only can be described as sedition, as they broke windows, vandalised offices, and even stole podiums and computers from around the capital. By this point the members of congress who had been in their respective chambers debating the negotiations to Biden's confirmation , had been escorted out and a barricade had been put in place by security officers at the entrances to the House of Representatives. Further actions by the Insurrectionists would continue until approximately 6:40, when officers could confirm the building was clear, along with other unfortunate news: During the time of occupation, it was reported that a woman was shot after attempting to breach the barricade to the house, being reported dead by officers after attempts to saver har life failed. Along with this several capitol officers were reported to be in critical condition, with some to this date having already passed away. In the end, legislators ended up confirming Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the President and Vice-President elect, however as REP. Darren Soto put it : “Jan. 6, 2021, is a day that will live in infamy, a day that our democracy almost died.”
So? What does this mean for our country? Well dear reader, I must admit that I can only speculate. As we all now know, several insurrectionists have been apprehended by federal authorities, and several indictments have been brought forward. Those who have been recognised but not charged have been put on no fly list, and all those who post false information regarding the election on any platform of social media have been swiftly silenced. With regards to the future of president trump, one can feel a little more certain, as the house of representatives have been pushing-and will most likely vote-to impeach President Donald Trump. Nevertheless, dear reader, even though the future of our country may remain uncertain, and the news that we see on the television may not be the brightest, you must remember one thing. You are the future. You, dear reader, have the ability to make the world a better place for not only our generation but many to come. As I always say dear reader, There is always the possibility of a better tomorrow. What can you do to make it a reality?
